For those who aren't rock climbers, you probably wouldn't consider Tonsai for a scheduled stop on your travels through Thailand. We didn't. However, at the recommendation of our fellow Italian travelers, Giorgio and Fabiana, we scheduled a stop and found Tonsai to be one of our most memorable spots in Southern Thailand.

Located almost steps from the famed Reilly Beach of Krabi (an exclusive resort beach for well known for its $25,000 per night bungalows), Tonsai is a hidden oasis of limestone cliffs, rustic bungalows and prices to make the budget conscious smile. Nestled in the trees, but close enough to enjoy some of the best beaches in the world (not to mention the one at the exclusive resort), we found a comfortable bungalow with a large patio at Banyan Tree resort that most days we had a hard time leaving.
We spent a lot of time reading, relaxing and watching everyone scale the perilous peaks above us. Sure we thought about trying it ourselves (they have rock climbing classes for the interested), but we reminded ourselves that we were on vacation. And seeing how fit all of the rock climbers were, we figured that rock climbing would interfere with our relaxing. Maybe next time.

NOTE: If you look closely to the right above the ladder, you will be able to see one of the climbers. We were usually a the bar below on the left.
