It's funny, we are as nervous as we are excited about taking a year off to travel the world. It is the first time that we have absolutely no expectations about what will happen to our lives. And yet, anxiety has replaced the blood pumping through our veins. We keep asking ourselves, do we have enough money, are we making the right decision, are we being irresposnible, aren't we too old to be doing this, etc. Many would think that we are crazy to have even one second thought. And we don't, well not really anyway. It's just that little, tisy-bitsy, tiny emotion called fear that has produced a reocurring dream where we forget to pack our belongings and all we are carrying are empty backpacks. We have come to believe that this dream is representative of the ideas expressed in the above quote that a dear friend shared with me one time. We take comfort in knowing that it is the experiences that make the person, not the things. Something we have always known, but conveniently never truly believed. Hence the reason for this year-long journey. We have determined that this trip will give us the chance to truly be honest with ourselves, figure out what we really want out of life and come back enriched by the experiences ahead of us. And don't worry friends, we won't become "too changed"--the Swifts will always throw the party, no matter where. Go Picachu! |
