| Every local we ran into told us a visit to Provence would not be complete without a stop at Les Baux. A city entirely carved into, out of and on top of a rock 650 meters high, it was constructed by a paranoid feudal lord who was afraid of being attacked. |

| Most spectacular are the surrounding views from the top where you have a chance to spy some of Provence’s most lavish homes nestled among expansive vineyards, olive groves and neatly maintained rows of growing produce. |
| We spent our day their playing like little kids. You can climb over most of the ruins (we did), and pretend that you are a villan or robber trying to storm the lord's fortress and you have been arrested and sentenced to the stockades (we did this too!). |
