After being stationary for four of our ten months of travel (well, by stationary we mean living in one place) we decided that we would spend the beginning of the summer months touring Europe by car. Thankfully our good friend Heather from California agreed to join us for the four-weeks of travel otherwise I don’t think we would have survived the navigation/driving challenges.

It is pretty easy to drive through Europe thanks to its efficient Autobans and extensive signage. Of course you have to learn how to read their signage since a sign pointing right doesn’t necessarily mean “next right”. It might be 200 meters, 500 meters, etc. However, we made it through more than seven countries with hardly any problems.
A word of caution though to anyone planning to drive through Europe…every Autoban has its share of tolls. In fact, it seems like there is a toll booth every few kilometers. Whatever you do, don’t try to shove your credit card in the automatic machines, it might get stuck. How do I know this? Ask us when you see us next.
One of the best things about driving through Europe rather than relying on airplanes, trains and buses is the flexibility that you have. We took full advantage of this flexibility when stopping in the "too expensive to stay" town of Zurich (above), admiring the Tour de France monument (left) and lingering among the vineyards and hops fields of Slovenia.
