| For years Fletch claimed that I didn't know what the changing of the seasons was. A California native, and twelve-years and counting in Southern California, I was convinced that the changing of the seasons meant hot sun to warm sun to cool sun. It wasn't until Fletch's parents treated us to a week-long stay outside of Algonquin National Park that I understood the true definition of this natural event. It was the first time that I had ever seen trees turn shades of red, pink, salmon, yellow, gold, peach and more. We found that it is very easy to get lost in your dreams in Algonquin Park. Around every turn there is something new to see. From chipmunks and blue jays, shedding birch trees, perfectly smoothed bolders from an ancient glacier, and mysterious creatures lurking under decaying tree stumps, climbing branchs or hanging off leaves; it is truly magical. We were even lucky enough to spy an entire family of moose. |

| Just outside of the park, we rented a wooden cottage that overlooked an expansive lake surrounded by our first glimpse of the Fall colors. Called the Blue Spruce Cottages, it is the type of place where even adults want to run around like kids since there is so much to do. And we did! We spent many of our days hiking nearby trails, sitting by the lake watching the loons, reading and relaxing by a real wood fire (something we don't have in California). One day we even rented a canoe and paddled up river to place called Ragged Falls, an incredible waterfall nestled among hundreds of trees. The white water contrasted against the changing trees made it a spectacular sight. |
